Pet Grooming Assistant / Bather

Job Overview

• Position: Dog Bather & Grooming Assistant
• Job Type:  Full-Time/ Part-Time
• Location: McGilvray Veterinary Hospital

Key Responsibilities

• Bathing & Prep work: clean ears, express anal sac, brush out mats before bath. Wash and dry dogs using shampoos and conditioners suited to each pet's skin and coat. Final finishing with a brush and comb after drying, Shave pads, trim & grind nails, shave sanitary areas. 
• Groomer Support: Safely restrain and calm anxious dogs during haircuts, prep equipment, and keep the grooming station clean and organized.
• Clinical Monitoring: check pets for skin issues, lumps, or parasites (flea/ticks) and immediately report findings to the veterinary staff or doctor.
• Patient Care: Maintain a clean, sanitized environment following strict hospital hygiene protocols to ensure pet safety.

Qualifications & Skills

• Experience: 1+ years of professional animal handling or grooming assistance preferred ( vet clinic or salon experience a plus), willing to be trained on the job
• Physical Ability: Able to lift up to 50 lbs, handle a large or unruly dogs, and stand for long hours
• Safety & Handling: Lift, hold, and calm dogs gently and safely on the grooming table or in the tub
• Teamwork: Communicates well with groomers, receptionists, and veterinary staff.
