Bracebridge Animal Hospital is a small, close-knit veterinary team dedicated to providing high-quality medical care with compassion and professionalism. Our team consists of 3 Doctors, 3 RVTs, 3 Veterinary Assistants and 2 Receptionists working together in a facility in the heart of Bracebridge.

Our clinic operates year-round:
- Monday & Wednesday: 8:00 AM – 7:00 PM
- Tuesday, Thursday & Friday: 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM
- Every other Saturday: 8:00 AM – 1:00 PM
We are currently seeking a Veterinary Assistant to join our team. This position is a fixed-term contract for the purpose of providing coverage during a maternity leave with the opportunity to become full-timecontinued employment beyond the maternity leave period.
Position Overview
The Veterinary Assistant is a key member of the hospital team, providing essential support across all areas of patient care, client service, and clinic operations. This role is hands-on, fast-paced, and highly team-oriented, with responsibilities spanning clinical assistance, patient handling, and hospital maintenance.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist veterinarians and RVTs with patient care and treatments
- Restrain animals safely during exams, blood draws, nail trims, and procedures
- Assist with routine diagnostics (radiographs, bloodwork, fecal testing, etc.)
- Administer medications under veterinarian/RVT direction
- Clean, disinfect, and maintain exam rooms, kennels, surgical suites, and treatment areas
- Sterilize and maintain surgical instruments and equipment
- Support surgical preparation and recovery of patients
- Maintain inventory, stock supplies, and assist with ordering
- Answer phones and assist with client communication as needed
- Process basic administrative tasks and support clinic flow
- Provide compassionate, professional support to clients and their pets

Qualifications
- Previous veterinary experience preferred (1+ year an asset, not required)
- Experience in animal handling or customer service is an asset
- Ability to lift up to 40 lbs (with assistance available for heavier patients)
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, and work in physically active positions for extended periods
- Strong teamwork mindset and ability to work with all hospital team members
Position Details
- Job Type: Full-time (Maternity Leave Coverage with potential for permanent role)
- Hours: 32–40 hours per week
- Wage: $21.00–$23.00 per hour (based on experience)
